Beach Volleyball has quickly grown in popularity over the last few years with the excitement revolving around the Olympics and the expanding competition in the NCAA college beach volleyball field.
In recent years, more and more colleges at the NCAA level are adding beach volleyball programs that offer scholarships to talented athletes. Scouts are on the lookout for players who can take their programs to the next level.
To be a beach volleyball athlete is to be a well-rounded athlete. With only two girls on one side of the net, and limited coaching during game play, it requires an immense amount of accountability, responsibility, self-discipline, and communication. Each player must be capable of executing each skill (passing, setting, hitting, serving, blocking and digging) As well as develop and execute game strategy. In addition, weather often plays a factor in beach volleyball and athletes learn to work with and around the elements. Moving in all directions and jumping in the sand forces players to become explosive and dynamic athletes.
The sand shifts under your feet which challenges your muscles to maintain stability, helping condition and strengthen for other sports.
Beach Volleyball offers a lot more freedom than many other sports! You get to decide who you compete with, where you travel, and which tournaments to play in. Unlike indoor club with a set tournament schedule and crowded indoor facilities, your travel is up to you and generally takes you to some of the most beautiful beaches in California (and the nation!)
Beach is a sport that can be played for a lifetime. The sand is low impact on your body so even after years of play, your knees will still like you! It's easy to access, too. All you need is a partner, a ball, and a court to play on. The play doesn't have to end when you're finished with your competitive career!
